Unfortunately my first residency of 2023 has been put on hold. I was due to drive up to Kirk Yetholm and hike to Auchope Rigg/Hen Hole, but due to severe weather conditions I did not want to risk being caught in dangerous elements. To further add salt in the wound, during the football match I was playing in yesterday evening, I pulled up with cramp in both calf muscles. This has damaged lower leg muscles hindering my ability to walk 100%. When planning to hike eight miles in natural landscapes, the body must be 100% fit and healthy, to take on whatever nature throws at you, but with this injury I would not be able to complete the hike.
I am sad with this postponement but safety is the most important factor within any of my residencies. I do also understand, that this puts my research plan a little behind schedule however, I will try to complete this residency within May or the early days of June. It is a shame, as I was looking forward to this residency... my bag was packed and I was ready to go.
In light of this, I have decided to drive over to Manchester tomorrow to visit the Nick Jordan exhibition 'Natural Interaction', at the Home theatre and gallery. The solo exhibition is that of a multidisciplinary showcase, with Nick working with film, photography, sculpture and print. The exhibition explores the independencies between social and ecological wellbeing. NJ is an artist I have only recently come across from Anneke's recommendation but from my initial perspective, I am seeing a relevance to my research. I will not go into NJ on this post, as I will document a conversation post-exhibition viewing, outlining the experience through thoughts, feelings and actions.
